Gratitude is the feeling of being thankful and grateful. However it is more than a fleeting feeling. Gratitude is an emotion we can cultivate as a means to cope with stress, anxiety and lead a more fulfilling and happy life. It’s more than a theory, there is science to back up that a feeling of gratitude can make us happier people in general.
What is Gratitude?
The attitude of gratitude means making the feeling of thankfulness an integral part of your mindset, it involves shifting your focus solely from yourself onto the things and people around you. A mindset based on gratitude will leave you feeling more confident, optimistic, and happy about the things and people that matter to you in your life. It will also help reduce your stress, negative feelings, overwhelm and anxiety since you’re able to take a step back and focus on the pleasures that bring you calm and comfort.
How to Keep an Attitude Based on Gratitude
In order to create a lasting attitude of gratitude that actually benefits you, start small and simple. It can be as easy as choosing 3 things to be grateful for and expressing them every morning or night. Whether it be listing them out loud to yourself, writing them down, or telling someone else. The repetitive process will program your brain to begin believing the words you’re saying and focus on them as they are in the front of your mind.
Other Important Measures
The attitude of gratitude can be a powerful self-help tool, but it is not the only thing you should be using to help manage daily stressors and anxiety. If you have constant feelings of stress or overwhelm, it is beneficial to keep track of your stress levels and symptoms of stress and anxiety. This can include tracking your vital signs such as heart rate, heart rate variability, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure. These key vital signs are closely related to stress. And seeing physical manifestations of your stress, can help you identify when you need to take a step back and evaluate the way you manage it.
